In the European Union, refrigeration circuits with a refrigerant quantity of at least 3 kg must be tested for leaks yearly by the operator according to regulation (EC) No. 842/2006. A leak test is required for hermetically-sealed refrigeration circuits if the refrigerant quantity exceeds 6 kg. All Dimplex heat pumps have a hermetically-sealed refrigeration circuit. Refrigeration circuits with a minimum refrigerant quantity of 30 kg must be tested for leaks at least once every six months by the operator.
The leak test must be documented by the operator and archived for a minimum of 5 years. The test is to be carried out by certified personnel only according to regulation (EC) No. 1516/2007.
In France, leak tests are regulated by "le code de l'environnement et l'arrêté du 7 mai 2007" and not European legislation. This requires that heat pumps with a refrigerant quality of more than 2 kg are tested for leaks once a year. The heat pump must also be tested for leaks after commissioning and any work or modification carried out on the refrigeration circuit.
The leak test must be documented and archived for a minimum of 5 years. The leak test must be carried out by a refrigeration technician who is certified according to R.543-99 "code de l'environnement".
